The Roots Re-mix

Society and the world around us profoundly impact our artistic lens; be that fashion, architecture, or design. Life intersects fashion and design is its muse.

During a cutting class a few years back, a Toronto hairstylist warned, "nothing's ever new, it's been re-mixed.

Ground breaking? No. But, by nothing, he really meant everything.

This got me thinking.... consider how hair trends mirror contemporary design. Broken down, hair, as with any artistic medium, is simply the balance of structure and fluidity of space in between.

Given the current recession people have become more resourceful and

second-hand DIY is slowly finding its way back into urban garb.

Could "root’s" big comeback be a sign of the economic times? Take Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss, for instance, who make dark roots chic. You don't have to wander far to see the “roots” widespread appeal. Simply, open any fashion magazine and there lies its domain.

Hair is not about being perfect right now. It’s about exploring the juxtaposition between non-conformity and structured.

To add interest have your stylist Balayage your highlights to the flow of your hair. Add a little root and you’re ready to go.
